Why Manifestos Are Misleading and Cost Us All Money
Julian Bray puts the Duckhouse Blog view:
UK plc is the body corporate and if you like, the various political parties are all rival managements, possibly competitors, seeking to control the parent UK plc.
The fact is that the more you look at the parties the closer they become in ideological terms and it all has to do with money, or rather the lack of it. There is none.
It’s not just the bank bail out, UK plc has as our American cousins would put it been ‘living high on the hog’ for over a decade, buoyed up by the City of London and the over reliance on imports and a gradual deskilling of an ageing population.
Skills gaps being encouraged and seemingly exploited by a Labour government, hellbent on multiculturalism, but not willing to factor in the upward cost changes needed in increased education, health and general welfare services.
No single party was really prepared for the natural ghetto mentality of the new arrivals and councils close to ports and airports clearly not ready for the disproportionally massive influx of immigrants. It is as if the Home Office was sleepwalking all through the period. Funding was slow in coming and racial tensions as a result began to rise.
Europe didn’t help either as the new Europeans also claimed their right to work in the UK. By this time the second generation Ugandan Asians were seeking a new competitive surge from Asian countries as equally battered by the likes of the despot Idi Amin in Uganda but fired with a renewed religious zeal to upset the sleepy UK apple cart.
The natural reaction of the resident population was to steadfastly ignore it until the jobs started drying up. No one really cared who was in power and MP’s carried on in a cosseted world of their own only partially opened up by cameras in the Palace of Westminster. Then totally wrecked first by an expose of dirty and legally dubious dealings of spin doctors, then by the ongoing expenses scandals of many of the outgoing MP’s and a few who have the temerity to stand again!
Turnout at successive General Elections has declined at such a rate that some seats are set to change hands on a vote count of just 20 per cent of the available adult population.
Many citizens of the UK not registering for a vote, some as a deliberate protest but a significant minority of first and second generation British Citizens still unable to speak or treat English as their first language. Cities like Peterborough regularly producing literature in not less than 27 different languages..
The manifesto offerings of all the main contenders seem to overlook this very basic premise, it is no longer a case of 5p off the income tax but how do we wipe out a current but upwardly rising debt of £180 billion? None of the manifesto programmes suggested come anywhere near to reducing it in my lifetime and possibly not that of my eldest son or yours for that matter.
On closer examination of all the programmes, a massive black hole of £30 billion still remains outstanding and as any military strategist will tell you, if the UK population as a whole is deprived of food for three days, civil war will break out.
Another back of a cigarette packet calculation suggests we’ll reach that state just as the Afghanistan war is about to wind down is say six years. So stick that in your manifesto, bring on the three set piece TV debates for that my friends is where the Election from now on will be decided, much to the chagrin of 1,000’s of misguided party volunteers stuffing unwanted and fancifully optimistic leaflets into a multitude of homes up and down the land.
Too late the Party leaders have found that the 70 pages of restrictions agreed by the doctors of spin only work in theory and no allowance has been made for human nature or human frailty. Battered old lambs to the slaughter. It’ll be brilliant television though!
Gordon Brown, championing the Labour corner, failing eyesight in his one good eye and his natural inability to properly answer any question will be countered by Camerons natural desire to over answer ie not answer within the one minute allotted or put another way limited to a 120 word package to get over the Conservative view,
Amazingly young Clegg of the Lib Dems might just be the one to shine as his party has no chance of forming a government and the manifesto produced by a Lib Dem wunderkind dreamer and is truly born of the desire for change, even more so than the Tories and light years ahead of the Labour programme which simply underlines poverty on every page and simply says trust us as we’ve messed this up for some fifteen years and have now found a cunning plan….
