BOEING LIGHT That's the Dreamliner....heading for Japan
ANA’s (All Nippon Airways) first Dreamliner touched down with aviation fans worldwide welcoming the plane that its American maker hopes will keep European rival Airbus out of its best market (Japan). Why? The U.S. aircraft giant has had to cede ground to its Airbus nearly everywhere else, including at home.
According to reports, the Boeing Dreamliner 787 is said to be almost a make or break diversion for Boeing as Aerobus continues to encroach on all the American Boeing markets and is now taking parts of the US domestic market features the largest entryways, overhead bins and windows of any airplane flying. Blake Emery, Boeing’s Director of Differentiation Strategy, is reported as saying these upgrades “improve harmony inside the cabin.” The design puts equal emphasis on form and function.
The plane has a carbon fibre design making it more fuel efficient than traditional heavier planes. For the passengers, using the plane in-flight will be a much more intuitive experience, from storage-bin latches to the control of how much light seeps through the expanded windows. Other improvements include more pressurized cabin air, larger windows that can be electronically dimmed and hands-free toilets.
There’s good reason to celebrate, especially in the current economy; Boeing has a backlog of 821 orders — almost a 10th of those from Japan alone. The wings on the 787 were made in Japan by Mitsubishi Heavy, the first time that a foreign contractor has built the most complex component of an aircraft for Boeing. The Dreamliner may only be partly made in the USA (but at least those parts include the ideas and the technology).
