zero point zero

The late John Vernon

"Zero point zero"

This classic line "Zero point zero" from the film Animal House delivered by the late great American actor and all round cinema bad man John Vernon is posted to encourage our Chancellor George Osborne before he delivers the Autumn Statement and just about sums up what we can expect. If George could take in some style points, so much the better, we can all get down to the pub. I had the pleasure of socially meeting and dining with John Vernon when he was filming Branigan in London during the 1070's, with John Wayne in the title role as a detective....

LEVESON INQUIRY : STREET OF SHAME CONFIRMED & I AGREE!

I am a Life member of the National Union of Journalists (40 years man and boy!) and ironically on the day the Obituary for Johnny Longdon one of the early inspirational BBC pioneer audio boffins was published, ( He invented the self drive BBC desk!) and once borrowed Churchills hat for a few days and many other stories.

I was invited to comment live and give my professional view (Thursday 24th November) on the Leveson Inquiry, http://www.levesoninquiry.org.uk/ on the BBC Cambridgeshire Jeremy Sallis  hosted BREAKFAST SHOW.
The magic of ISDN and the Glensound C5 ISDN mixer allows me
to broadcast directly from my home at full professional quality
into radio stations around the world.

Having closely researched my task, I began to feel really uneasy and wondered just how much our generation was involved in the general muckraking and  everything that was being presented? Then up popped an e-mail from the  http://www.gentlemenranters.com/  website which answered my question.

I invite you gentle reader, to follow the link as it speaks volumes on how the Gentlemen of  Fleet Street (and there were many) view - or would have viewed - the world today. Lord Leveson might be well advised to have a look as well. He is only getting a small part of the self serving story. Here is the e-mail in full, holding nothing back!

Half a century in this business and (just watching the telly) I cannot remember our public image being so deservedly low.

I’d rather entertain people offering to tarmac my drive with overmatter from the M5 than this bunch of cowboys currently masquerading as reporters (and… editors).

AND – here’s the thing – it wasn’t my generation that has brought this about.

Shame on the lot of them.

BUT… we used to do things better.

Boris could take a Health & Safety tip from NY Mayor Bloomberg

Photo: RichGreenberg
My good friend Rich Greenberg from New York has just posted this picture which until very recently was the location of the 'Occupy Wall Street' camp, cleared by Mayor Bloomberg on  'Health and Safety' grounds. This should give an incentive to our London Mayor Boris Johnson, to not only clear the streets around St Pauls Cathedral in London but also for Basildon Council to tackle the renewed Dale Farm situation, as the caravans are massing again...

A little more for your Poppy Please

Many of our ex-servicemen observed their own private two minutes silence at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day, some now too frail to stand out in the cold; but they still silently remembering their friends during the two minute silence. Some soldiers only aged 17 who fell in the Great War and another generation in the second World War.

Since that time, there have been more than 1,000 wars (since 1945) of all kinds, some justified, many not. Tomorrow Sunday, a Service of Remembrance will take place at the existing war memorial within the Cathedral precincts from 10:45am.

If you can attend then do so, but if not simply remember those who have protecteed our country and through injury or loss now need your financial support, contribute a little more for your Poppy.
In fact, if you see a collecting tin, just put whatever you can afford in that tin, as an additional thank you for all that our service men and women do.  We shall remember them.

Any Excuse to Run This Picture of Ed Balls

Balls has a favourite hand gesture to indicate growth flat-lining.
When he pulled it out today Dave quipped:
“You can go on making your questionable salute…”

What did he have in mind?
