Remarks of President Barack Obama Address to the Nation on Immigration November 20, 2014

full text check against delivery

President Barack Obama announced that as many as five million illegal immigrants will gain protections from deportation under a plan that would bypass Congress.

Here is the text of his speech, as provided by the White House.

Remarks of President Barack Obama
Address to the Nation on Immigration
The White House
November 20, 2014
As Prepared for Delivery –

My fellow Americans, tonight, I’d like to talk with you about immigration.

For more than 200 years, our tradition of welcoming immigrants from around the world has given us a tremendous advantage over other nations. It’s kept us youthful, dynamic, and entrepreneurial. It has shaped our character as a people with limitless possibilities – people not trapped by our past, but able to remake ourselves as we choose.

Doyen of PR, Denis Inchbald, Hon FCIPR, Founder of Welbeck Public Relations dies...

I was sorry to belatedly hear of the death of Denis John Elliott Inchbald, or (as he once confided - Inchebald - from the Norwegian...) he passed away on the 9th June 2014. He was my boss in the early 70's at Welbeck Public Relations then part of FCB, Foote Cone and Belding the advertising agency. Denis was an ideal light touch mentor, who was willing to try out new ideas, and would back you against his fellow board members.

We were the first to use studio based focus groups, set up a TV and Radio studio, introducing the concept of Syndicated Radio Tapes and Professional media interview training for clients.  All now staple tools of the PR business.

Major breakthrough for Airbus A330neo and Rolls Royce with Delta Air Lines ORDER CONFIRMED!

BREAKING NEWS: (Reuters) - Britain's Rolls-Royce said it won a $5 billion (3.19 billion pound) contract to supply aero engines to power 50 new Airbus planes ordered by Delta Air Lines.

New aircraft? How long? Say a two minute makeover and no Peter Andre in sight...

Emirates airline have produced a fascinating time-lapse of the complex 3-C Check maintenance process on an Airbus A380. It's described as: "the largest maintenance check on any aircraft," In reality, it requires the aircraft to be taken apart, piece by piece. Within the process the airline has carried out a complete refurbishment and changed the look and style of the interiors. Literally blink and you'll miss it.

This level of maintenance check typically takes several weeks, but Emirates compressed the entire process into less than two minutes, on the video anyway...

The A380 is a luxurious airliner that Emirates says is as close to a private jet that a commercial flight gets. The aircraft featured is the very first A380 that Emirates received from Airbus, in 2008.

NOV 15th 2014: Malaysia Boeing 772 departing Shanghai, Rolls Royce Trent engine 3 loud bangs and shuts down in flight...

A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration 9M-MRE on flight MH-387 from Shanghai Pudong (China) to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), was climbing out of Shanghai when an engine - a Rolls Royce Trent 892 - emitted three loud bangs, the crew shut the engine down and returned to Shanghai Pudong for a safe landing.

The airline confirmed the aircraft returned to Shanghai "due to some mechanical anomaly."

Passengers later confirmed there were three loud bangs and a listener monitoring air band frequencies reported the crew indicated an engine failure on climb out.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto flight MH-387 the following day (Airbus A330-300 registration 9M-MTA) and reached Kuala Lumpur with a delay of 24 hours.

The Boeing aircraft is still on the ground in Shanghai, and has not returned to service.

KLM Boeing 744 at Amsterdam twice aborts take off

A KLM Boeing 747-400, registration PH-BFY, flight KL-643 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to New York JFK,NY (USA), was accelerating for takeoff from Amsterdam's runway 24 when the crew rejected takeoff at low speed (about 45 knots over ground) indicating no assistance was needed and they wanted to rejoin the departure queue.   A passenger reported the captain announced they had aborted takeoff due to an indication they had determined to be a false warning.  The aircraft accelerated for takeoff from runway 24 again about 10 minutes later but again needed to reject takeoff at low speed, the aircraft vacated the runway.

The passenger reported the captain now announced that the indication appeared not to be false, one of the four generators was malfunctioning.

The aircraft stopped on a taxiway waiting for clearance to return to the gate. About 10 minutes later the captain announced that maintenance had cleared the aircraft to cross the Atlantic on three generators, the business class would remain without power however.

Eighty Boeing 737 Max single aisle aircraft ordered by Irish/Japanese leasing firm. 0ver 25,000 single-aisle 'planes will take to the sky in the next 20 years says survey.

Boeing and Dublin based SMBC Aviation Capital have jointly announced a record breaking order for 80 737 MAX 8s, valued at more than $8.5 billion at list prices.

It is the largest single order for 737 MAXs from an aero leasing company, and as they put it "will help SMBC Aviation Capital grow its portfolio of high-demand, fuel-efficient airplanes."

SMBC Aviation Capital, the Dublin headquartered but Japanese owned aircraft lessor, has placed firm order for 80 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, in a deal worth around $8.5bn (€6.8bn) at list prices.

The deal is the largest single order of 737 MAXs by a lessor and the largest Boeing order of any kind from a Japanese-owned lessor.

The aircraft will be powered by the CFM LEAP engine and are sceduled to be delivered to SMBC Aviation Capital between 2018 and 2022.

In July SMBC announced it had placed a firm order for 115 Airbus aircraft to be delivered between 2016 and 2022. This deal was the biggest single-aisle aircraft purchase deal announced by anyone in the leasing industry.

With this agreement in place SMBC Aviation Capital becomes the  50th 737 MAX customer and blosters the Boeing order book order book to over  2,400 airplanes.  SMBC Aviation Capital and Boeing jointly celebrated the announcement earlier today at a signing ceremony in Tokyo.

Boeing's current market outlook suggests that airlines will need more than 25,600 single-aisle airplanes like the 737 MAX over the next 20 years.

NO EXTRA RUNWAYS ARE NEEDED IF CARGO DECAMPS FROM HEATHROW - says Aviation Expert

London Luton/Stansted (above)/Southend could mop up London Air Cargo,
and negate need for new runways..says Julian Bray

Julian Bray Aviation Expert  writes: A truly shocking report, which misses a key point on increasing aviation security aspects of air cargo and logistics, has today poured water on all the work put in by airport owner/operators at London Heathrow and London Gatwick Airports to make a case for a third runway, at their respective major international airports, and represents a black week for the aviation industry in general.

Having earlier lost a Supreme Court direction over delayed flight cash penalties to be paid by EC airlines, to delayed passengers - which will see some budget airlines in 2015 go out of business -  and for others the prospect of significant air fare increases; Sir Howard Davies in his report claims, the cost of a controversial extra runway at either Heathrow or Gatwick will cost billions of pounds more than the airport owners have cost modelled or predicted..

But the figures are hotly disputed, as a 20 per cent buffer has been added to all the component costs by the report writers, on the basis that 'public projects are always under budgeted.'

Heathrow Airport  said their preferred plan for a third runway was costed at approximately £15.6 billion. This also included road infrastructure whilst Gatwick said a second runway would cost £7.4 billion.

In his justification for arbitrarily adding the 20% uplift in costs Sir Howard Davies who chaired the Government's Airports Commission claimed the true cost of Heathrow would be some £3 billion more and Gatwick would cost an extra £2 billion, this is the justification for the 20% hike in the estimates.

Alarmingly the report does not properly address the 'elephant in the room' including rocketing costs associated with aviation security, the complicating factor of Air Cargo/Freight and Private Aviation located at London Heathrow.

Clearly, if all cargo operations were moved out of London Heathrow and relocated to other regional airports, and private aviation substantially surcharged for using Hearthrow, they would soon decamp to less expensive but well serviced airports such as Stansted, Southend, Luton, Redhill and many other smaller landing strips even RAF Northolt.

The removal of air freight operations from Heathrow would reduce substantial road congestion around London Heathrow, but importantly there would be no need for additional airport runways and the cost of cargo transits would be substantially reduced.

For the first time air freight operations could be fully integrated with  road/rail frieht interchanges and container/ freeports in a truly seemless 'just-in-time' operation.

As an example of how complex the system is, its generally not realised that UK firms sending airfreight via the Italian carrier Alitalia would see some of their air freight/carg shipments sent from the Heathrow air cargo sheds FIRST BY ROAD  to Rome for onward air transmission.

Clearly in 2014 there is little reason to have the extensive volumes of cargo being delivered directly into Central London, as manufacturing and service industries have substantially moved out Greater London to other cheaper areas. Clearly cargo handling should be targeted on Freight handling hubs such as the London Gateway and associated rail operations where air and sea/road freight containers can be quickly cascaded throughout the UK and Europe.

To be fair cargo operations are almost outside of the scope of the Davies Report, but in reality considering a Falcon executive Jet requires a runway slot on equal terms to that of a fully loaded Dreamliner or a DHL freight jet aircraft, It has to be a central traffic factor.

So the simplistic 'Bray' plan would see freight and air cargo operations fully cascaded to regional airports and only a substantial premium but much reduced cargo service operated directly out of London Heathrow. As for Boris Island? Sunk without trace... one bird that'll not fly ...

BRANSON HIRES PR BIG GUN FOR VIRGIN GALACTIC DAMAGE LIMITATION MEDIA PUSH

According to the highly regarded Odwyers PR Newletter Sir Richard Branson has hired in an American PR firm to counter UK Media driven speculation...

http://www.odwyerpr.com/story/public/3452/2014-11-03/edelman-steers-virgin-galactic-pr-after-crash.html

Edelman Steers Virgin Galactic PR After Crash
Virgin Galactic is leaning on Edelman through the fatal Oct. 31 crash of its SpaceShipTwo spacecraft in the Mojave Desert.

The Virgin Galactic rocket plane, built by Scaled Composites, broke up during a test flight Friday morning, the CEO of the Mojave Air and Space Port said in a press conference that day. One pilot died while the second is in serious condition after parachuting to the ground.

VG's high profile founder Richard Branson has been a visible presence since the accident, taking part in press conference in New Mexico and appearing on the "Today" show Nov. 3 to acknowledge the "horrible setback" for the deceased pilot and the company. But Branson vowed to "move forward and create a spacecraft company that hopefully one day will be the marvel of the world."
Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
VG was live-tweeting the test flight, as it has others. After a message indicating the plane's engine ignited as expected, a second message followed the said the craft "has experienced an in-flight anomaly."

The company posted a statement later in the day that said the vehicle suffered a "serious anomaly resulting in the loss of the vehicle."

All press inquiries were directed to Edelman, which picked up the global PR account of VG in April.

Media have jumped on the story with many outlets relating the failed test to the explosion of an unmanned rocket earlier in the week, declaring the episodes serious setbacks for the privatized space craft industry.

The National Transportation Safety Board said a system that rotates the aircraft's tail could have been activated prematurely, causing it to break up. But the federal investigation is ongoing and no cause has been determined.

Virgin Galactic has locked up $90M through the sale of $250,000 tickets, some to prominent figures and celebrities. Branson said at a press conference Nov. 1 that no one had yet demanded a refund.

The company is urging media to reduce speculation as the NTSB conducts an investigation. "We understand that everyone is anxious to understand what happened on Friday; certainly no one wants to know more than we do," VG said in a Nov. 2 statement via Edelman. "However, as we have made clear, Virgin Galactic is not in a position to comment on the incident itself or the test flight. The National Transportation Safety Board is in charge of the investigation and we are cooperating fully with their work."
