Networking Vendor DrayTek are warning about the potential dangers of smartphone apps being provided by governments and, depending on who your government is, why you might want to think twice before switching to the convenience of government and/or local council sponsored apps.
DrayTek’s Michael Spalter has commented on the potential advantages, but perhaps more importantly the disadvantage of allowing governments to provide apps for use in our private smartphones.
Such apps for example might provide ID cards and driving licences instead of using physical cards, but then also immediately provide the government agency with access to your phone.
This introduces all sorts of possible privacy and monitoring concerns which, in the wrong hands, could be abused, he claims
