BAE Systems has confirmed widely leaked proposals for some 2,000 job cuts in the UK in their latest trading update.
The aerospace and defence giant said the cuts would ensure production continuity at competitive costs. Its widely accepted that Typhoon and Hawk variants have not met expectations, and that many expressions of interest from mainly middle east countries, have not been converted into firm orders.
The firm says it is taking action to trim Typhoon and Hawk aircraft production rates.
"As a result, the group has today announced a proposal to reduce the workforce of the military air and information business by up to 1,400 roles," the firm said.
